I am a late-deafened artist, age 67, and I use a wheelchair. I am looking for an IHSS/WPCS or private caregiver with a car for up to 31 IHSS hrs/week, or 15-20 private hrs/week. If there is someone who can help with wound care and packing that would be excellent, but it is not a requirement. I have chronic abscesses on one thigh.
I speak, use sign language and I lipread . Knowledge of deafness and American Sign Language is desired, but not required. I can use my transcription app to understand speech. I have mobility problems similar to MS, but from lupus damage to my spinal cord, nerves and muscles, and chronic pain. I use a wheelchair and can transfer myself most of the time.
I am looking for a non-smoking caregiver to assist with a few tasks each day, from the following list: bathing, dressing, light ambulation, occasional grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions for me, exercises, household chores, help to reduce clutter, activity organizing, cleaning, laundry, driving, assistance with cooking and kitchen clean up... I will also need help sometimes with communication by phone or in person, accompany me to appointments, and help with my wheelchair and other mobility aides.
Clear communication is essential and willingness to to use email and text messaging rather than voice calls, which need to be translated into text.
I am looking for someone who is friendly, patient, self-directed and reliable, It also helps to be organized and good at helping me stay organized making suggestions with ideas on how things can be improved. Caregivers should also be strong enough to get my 35 lb manual folding wheelchair in and out of their car when necessary. I also have a power chair and use paratransit sometimes, but I need someone who can drive who has reliable transportation and a valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
